North Carolina is well represented at the 2018 Grammy Awards as Snow Hill, NC native and Jamla/Roc Nation recording artist Rapsody has been nominated for Best Rap Album for her latest, Laila’s Wisdom. In addition, Jamla Records head and legendary hip-hop producer 9th Wonder who produced Kendrick Lamar’s “Duckworth” and most of Rapsody’s album Laila’s Wisdom will be representing North Carolina.

Although the competition is heavy in the Best Rap Album category with Jay-Z’s 4:44, Migos’ Culture, Tyler, The Creator’s Flower Boy, and aforementioned DAMN. by Kendrick Lamar, Rapsody would join an exclusive group of recent Grammy award winners Anthony Hamilton, Fantasia, and the Carolina Chocolate Drops from North Carolina.

Rapsody’s Grammy-nominated album, Laila’s Wisdom defies current popular rap trends with shrewd lyrical bars with a refined and soothing instrumental track featuring Black Thought, Anderson .Paak, Busta Rhymes, Kendrick Lamar, Terrace Marton, BJ The Chicago Kid, and more.

Although chances are slim she’ll bring home the hardware with the stiff competition, one thing is for sure, North Carolina rap and hip-hop is definitely on the rise. Rapsody is currently on a nationwide tour and you can see her remaining 2017 tour dates here.
