Charlotte band Ancient Cities and Birdsong Brewing are collaborating on a small batch holiday brew on December 22nd. The release is the second of Birdsong’s local music series, with the first being the Hungry Girl IPA, a collaboration with Charlotte rock duo, Hungry Girl. Inspired by their 2016 album title track, Supermoon Blackout, Birdsong Brewing has created a special “Supermoon Black Stout.” With hints of bourbon and pecan the new “Supermoon Black Stout” will be an extremely dark stout.

“When writing Supermoon Blackout, I was imagining an altered-state of mind, so it’s kinda fitting that it becomes a beer.” said Stephen Warwick of Ancient Cities.

“When they contacted us, I was 100% behind it,” said Justin Fedor of Ancient Cities. “I’m a stout drinker, so the poetry of Supermoon Blackout becoming a stout was just too much of a beautiful thing to do anything else otherwise. Plus, I kinda drink stouts exclusively when it comes to beers.”

Birdsong brewer, Jeff Bowman, says about the special brew, “We set out to create a smooth oak bourbon stout with local pecans that is dangerously drinkable and festive for the holidays. I think we nailed it.”

The small batch brew will be released on Thursday, December 22 with a special performance at the brewery. There will be a Santa Costume Contest and the winner will be selected by members of Ancient Cities at the end of their set. A lucky winner will receive a gift package from Birdsong and the band.
