In 2008, leading up to the heated Barack Obama and John McCain presidential election, the Beastie Boys announced a Get Out and Vote Tour aiming to hit crucial swing states. They brought along artists like Norah Jones, Sheryl Crow, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Crosby & Nash, Santigold, and Tenacious D to encourage young people to vote in an important election year. One of those dates included a stop at Amos’ Southend with Sheryl Crow and Santigold on October 27, 2008. Tickets literally sold out minutes after they announced it.
Prior to the concert the Beastie Boys, led by Adam Yauch (RIP MCA) brought their bus to CPCC to chat with students along with Santigold followed by a short acoustic set by Sheryl Crow.
