Charlotte is filled with seasonal events to get you in the holiday spirit this December. Whether you prefer to sip on a holiday beverage, snack on delicious baked goods, or enjoy a gourmet meal, there is a food event for you. Before the hectic holidays are here, find some time for yourself at one of these tasty events this month:
Love Desserts Gingerbread House
To get Charlotte in the holiday spirit, Love Desserts is transforming the Charlotte Council for Garden Clubs House into a life-sized gingerbread house. Attendees will walk through a candy garden to enter the home where they will find seven candy themed rooms filled with sights, sounds and smells that will make one’s mouth water. Queen City Kitchen and Seymour’s kitchen will be on site with sweets for sale, along with Macchiato’s, a non-profit coffee shop who will use the proceeds from their hot chocolate sales to combat domestic abuse. Make sure to pre-purchase tickets online if you plan on taking a tour of this magical, seasonal house.
Birmingham Sushi Class
Birmingham Sushi is back at Sycamore Brewing. Sip fresh brews while you learn how to make and eat two sushi rolls, sauces and more. The class will include hands on instructions so you can take your sushi skills home to your kitchen. Learn plating techniques, tips, tricks and more from the professionals and be able to impress your friends and family.
Burger & Beer Tasting with Primal Brewery at Little Big Burger
What goes better together than beers and burgers? For two hours, sample a variety of beers from Primal Brewery, based out of Huntersville, NC and help determine which beers go best with Little Big Burger’s legendary seasoned patties by voting on their favorite. At the end of the night, votes will be tallied and the winning brew will be available at Little Big Burger indefinitely.
5th Annual 100 Gardens Party
Join 100 Gardens in celebrating 5 years of aquaponics in local Charlotte schools and programs. Aquaponics is a system that combines conventional aquaculture with hydroponics (cultivating plants in water). Learn more about aquaponics programming in schools and how you can get involved. There will be pizza from Pure Pizza and all sales from alcohol and t-shirts will go directly to support 100 Gardens.
Oyster Roast and Seafood Bash
Fresh North Carolina oysters, Alaskan snow crab legs and jumbo shrimp are just some of the delectable seafood items on Southeast Crab Feast’s menu at Three Spirits Brewery this month. Warm up with a large bowl of seafood gumbo or steamed blue crabs while sipping on Three Spirit’s brews, wine or ciders. The $5 admission includes a complimentary beer and food prices range from $8-20. The feast will last for 8 hours so stop by for lunch or dinner and don’t forget to RSVP as capacity is limited.
Master Chef Gabriele Grigolon is putting together a gourmet truffle dinner at his restaurant Aqua e Vino. The six-course dinner will feature white truffles from Italy, chef’s home country. This is sure to be a savory, rich meal that truffle enthusiasts will not want to miss. Seating is limited to only 30 diners so make sure you call ahead for reservations.
River’s Edge Craft Dinner – Triple C Brewing Co.
Overlook the whitewater river while enjoying a five-course dinner at River’s Edge Craft Dinner at the US National Whitewater Center. River’s Edge will host Triple C Brewing Company. Each course will be paired with a 6 oz beer from this local brewery. Some menu highlights include a sweet potato tamale with green tomato relish and curry cauliflower paired with a Baby Maker Double IPA to balance the spices from the dish. If you have a sweet tooth, the opera cake is sure to impress with graham cracker streusel and fix jam paired with White Blaze winter ale.
A Second Year of Friends and Beer: Legion Brewing’s Second Birthday
Join Legion Brewing in celebrating their second birthday starting with Brunch with Santa. Bring the family to take a photo with Santa Claus, eat tasty breakfast food and sip on $4 Beermosas. There will be limited beer releases throughout the day along with plenty of live music.
Rhino Market’s 3rd Anniversary Partayyyy
Rhino Market and Deli will be celebrating their 3rd birthday all day on December 16. If you are a morning person, celebrate with freshly brewed coffee starting at 9:00 a.m. At 12:00 p.m., vendors such as Queen Charlotte’s pimento cheese, Pure Intentions and Ogre Sauce will have live demonstrations and products for sample/sale. Oysters Carolina is providing delicious and fresh oysters so come hungry!
4th Annual Chili Cook Off
Warm up with unlimited samples of chili at Unknown Brewing Company’s 4th annual cook off. Vote on your favorite chili while listening to live music and helping a good cause, Purple Heart Homes. Contestants will compete against 20 teams to see who’s recipe is the best.
Meredith Leigh at Heirloom
Meat guru, Chef and Author Meredith Leigh will be in Charlotte this month at Heirloom restaurant. The author of The Ethical Meat Handbook and Pure Charcuterie: The Craft & Poetry of Curing Meats at Home, both being sold at the event, will be available for meet and greets and book signings. Chef Leigh is also collaborating with Heirloom Chef Clarke Barlowe for a tasty four-course meal. Dinner and book packages are being offered, the perfect gift for any carnivore on your list.
Release The Funk 5: Let Me Take You On A Funky Ride
Join the beer connoisseurs at Salud for their 5th annual Release The Funk Festival celebrating sour beer. Tickets will include unlimited tastings and a special edition glass. Music by DJ Overcash and food from Fud at Salud will be available for purchase. The official after party will be down the street at Salud Cerveceria with live music from Funk You and Litz.
DrinkOrder premiere screening party
Order/fire presents the first DrinkOrder episode at Free Range Brewing. Host Bob Peters, famed bartender and Head Mixologist of The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte will be premiering the episode featuring Charlotte’s favorite bartenders – Kel Minton of Soul Gastrolounge, Colleen Hughes of Haberdish, Stefan Huebner of Dot Dot Dot, and Brian Lorusso of Dogwood Southern Table and Bar. All of these renown bartenders will be in attendance to serve up some samples of their famous libations.
River’s Edge Craft Dinner – Sycamore Brewing
River’s Edge at the US National Whitewater Center will welcome Sycamore Brewing for the last Craft Dinner of 2017. Join Executive Chef Michael Rayfield for a five-course dinner paired with 6 oz. of Sycamore Brewing beer. The meal will begin with Mexican street corn fritters paired with the Sun Grown lager for a refreshing taste. Hanger steak will be served as the main course with a Sycamore Porter and panna cotta topped with kiwi, cilantro and mango puree paired with a seasonal ale.
