According to new population estimates for cities and towns released by the U.S. Census Bureau, Charlotte is now the 16th largest city in the United States. With a population now estimated at 872,498, the Queen City added an estimated 13,151 residents from July 1, 2017 to July 1, 2018.
Charlotte topped popular cities Austin, Jacksonville, Denver, and San Diego in growth from July 1, 2017 to July 1, 2018, but was fifth behind Phoenix, Seattle, San Antonio, and Fort Worth.
North Carolina is also one of twelve states that added more than 150,000 housing units (357,000) from April 1, 2010 through July 1, 2018, ranking the state among the top six largest increases alongside Texas, California, Florida, New York, and Washington.
