Charlotte FC will host Atlanta United for their 2025 home opener this Saturday, March 1, at 2 p.m. Following a 2-2 draw against the Seattle Sounders, Charlotte earned a point despite being without Wilfried Zaha, who missed the match due to the birth of his child. The Crown struggled but equalized late, with a 92nd-minute own goal by Seattle’s Yéimar.
Atlanta United defeated CF Montréal 3-2 in their opener, with new signing Emmanuel Latte Lath scoring twice. Miguel Almirón provided the assist on the winning goal, marking his return to Atlanta after previous success with the club.
Charlotte’s defense will need to perform much better against Atlanta than it did against Seattle. Atlanta’s attacking pace could pose problems for the Charlotte backline, which struggled with Morris and Georgi Monoungou in the Seattle match. Charlotte should control possession more effectively against Atlanta, especially with Zaha likely to make his debut for The Crown. His presence on the wing should help create more quality chances and provide service into the box for Agyemang, who had a relatively quiet match against the Sounders.
Atlanta’s season opener drew 65,520 fans, and Charlotte will look to surpass that attendance at Bank of America Stadium. The Crown have a 1-2 record in home openers, with their last win coming last year against NYCFC.
