Charlotte’s favorite post-punk rockers Junior Astronomers’ celebrate their 11th annual birthday show with several great bands at Petra’s with tropical sounds on the back patio provided by Zach Reader and afterparty with DJ AXNT.
A hypnotic trance is created through guitars painted heavy and a rhythm section bound for movement, but beneath the distortions and muddled screams Junior Astronomers seek to achieve more than just reactions from onlookers; the band itself tries to document the human experience.
Aiming for Enrike (Norway)
Explosive, genius virtuoso duo from Oslo that manages to create an extremely exciting, eccentric universe by means of one drum, a number of interconnected guitar amps and a series of loop and effect pedals. A universe filled with jazz, noise, post-punk and funk. Adventurous, energetic, danceable and innovative.
“Charlotte quartet Chócala (Latin slang for high-five) have cemented themselves in the local music scene as a jubilant force to be reckoned with. Despite only having a three-track demo tape, recorded in their practice space, the band’s sound and enthusiastic live performances have propelled them into hearts and spotlights around town. The band recently played Confluence, a two-day local music festival hosted by the US National White Water Center, and Music at the Mansion, a statewide initiative highlighting Carolina musicians. The band consists of siblings Liza (vocals/synth/keys) and Claudio Ortiz (backup vocals/percussion), Davey Blackburn (percussion), and Michael Anderson (saxophone).” – Shirley Griffith, CLTure
A math rock band from Charlotte, NC. Comfortable and chaotic, atmospheric and complex and a story that began in 2015. Coming from many different backgrounds, the band has found themselves in a plethora of twinkling guitar riffs, immersive time signatures, and a melancholy soaring saxophone.
Sinners & Saints (Acoustic)
Since the band’s formation in 2011, Sinners & Saints has been gathering a following of fans who turn to their whiskey drinking, shit kickin’, sweet loving music for a good time but find something more – an irrepressible optimism even in dark times. We’re all sinners and we’re all saints, and we’re all in it together.
The band has shared the stage up and down the east coast with the likes of Flogging Molly, Shovels and Rope, Robert Earl Keen, Daniel Romano, St Paul & the Broken Bones, SUSTO, Sun Kil Moon, Bombadil, and many others.
Sinners & Saints will be releasing their second full-length album, On The Other Side, in early 2017.
