New South for the New Southerner: Making African American History in Charlotte’s West End

Making African American History in Charlotte’s West End. Retired Levine Museum historian Dr. Tom Hanchett shares new research from the McCrorey Heights neighborhood near Johnson C. Smith University – home to key Civil Rights activists of the 1950s-70s. With oral history videos by filmmaker Ken Koontz, through a grant from Arts & Science Council.

All New South for the New Southerner programs will be hosted by retired Levine Museum historian Dr. Tom Hanchett. Each program is $20 for non-members (25% discount for members) and includes a program, Southern chicken dinner from Mert’s Heart and Soul, and a cash bar. Space is limited, reservations required.
