Imagine is a lot more than just an EDM music festival

September 13, 2018

Imagine Music Festival started in 2013 as a 15,000-person event in Masquerade Music Park. The festival’s attendance has more than doubled since the first year and it’s turned into the city’s largest camping electronic dance music event, as well as one of the nation’s last remaining independently operated large-scale music festivals. Nearly 35,000 patrons are expected each day over the course of the four-day event this year.

Now celebrating its fifth year, Imagine will be returning to Atlanta Motor Speedway on September 21. The Speedway will be transformed into an aquatic fairytale complete with a splash pool, circus troupes, workshops and, of course, plenty of music to dance to. When you aren’t listening to top electronic acts such as Armin Van Buuren, Bassnectar, Kaskade, Griz, Green Velvet or Zhu, here are some other unique offerings to check out over the weekend:

Splash Pool

Iris Presents turns the 1.5-mile speedway into a complete 360-degree sensory adventure by combining music, art, interactive classes and other installations. One way to fully experience the aquatic wonderland is by visiting the giant splash pool behind the mainstage. Jump in to the crystal blue pool and let the refreshing water cool you off during the hot days. Large floats are provided for endless hours of lounging with your friends with mainstage sets as your soundtrack. The splash pool is also home to VIP areas, hookah lounges, art installations and bars.

Workout Classes

In addition to the Imaginarium, the campgrounds will host daily yoga and dance classes each morning near the silent disco stage. On Friday morning, iEssense merges holotropic breathing, dance and meditation with music to naturally release chemicals like dopamine, serotonin and endorphins which will enhance your mood. Saturday will host yoga and dance Instructors from local Atlanta studios who will be teaching classes to get you up and moving accompanied by a live DJ. Sunday’s Wim Hof Method workshop will focus more on breathing and cold exposure. The class will teach you how to use these natural resources to increase your mindfulness, improve your mood and help you relax using techniques such as cryotherapy. The campgrounds boast plenty of activities to jump start your day but will also be providing entertainment late into the night.

Transformational Workshops

The festival added camping in 2016 when it extended the weekend festival to three days. Each year, camping has grown in both size and popularity and now includes Thursday early arrival, VIP camping, yoga and workout classes, workshops, a silent disco and more. Imagine proves they provide their attendees with more than music by hosting daily art, mind and body workshops. Located in the Imaginarium in the campgrounds, the workshops are a chance for you to learn a new hobby, relax your body after a long night or discover something new about yourself. Classes range from acro yoga to mediation to skills such as flow arts, slacklining and juggling. All workshops are free with the purchase of a camping wristband; however, space is limited so once the schedule is released, ensure you sign up.

Silent Disco

Each night after the headliners shut down the festival, the silent disco will open in the campgrounds. If you aren’t ready to end the party yet, the stage will play music until sunrise around 7:00 a.m. The silent disco prides itself on having a full production stage, making it one of the largest silent discos in the country. Put on a pair of headphones and jam to the music of local talent and special guests as well as themed nights such as trance Sunday hosted by the Atlanta Trance Family.

Art

The art at Imagine goes past murals, structures and live paintings. While there are plenty of interactive fixtures and oceanic art around both the camp and festival grounds, IMF integrates some of the top dancers, circus acts and artists who add new visual elements to the music. Picture the sun setting at the Amazonia stage and looking up to see elegant acrobats wrapped in delicate, colorful silks flipping from the ceiling. The Inferno Stage is brought alive each night with pyrotechnics, go-go dancers and aquatic creatures. The performers and their costumes are truly unique and bring a magical aspect to the festival.

In addition to these attractions, Imagine Music Festival will have VIP areas, table service, carnival rides and much more to captivate attendees all weekend long. The festival will take place from September 21-23, with early arrival available for campers on Thursday, September 20.
