Magic Johnson will throw honorary first pitch at Honey Hunters Opening Day game in Gastonia

NBA legend and business mogul Magic Johnson will be in Gastonia on Thursday for the inaugural game of the Honey Hunters to throw out the honorary first pitch. The Honey Hunters, a new Atlantic League minor league baseball team and an official partner of Major League Baseball, is owned by Brandon Bellamy, a real estate developer who is also the first Black majority owner of a professional baseball team.

The Opening Day game on Thursday, May 27 against the Lancaster Barnstormers will take place at the new FUSE District Stadium, a 16-acre redevelopment project and a multi-use complex that will host concerts and other sporting events with restaurants and retail space in the future. The game will start at 6:50 p.m. and will culminate with a fireworks show.
