R&B singer Miguel is making his return to Charlotte this week bringing The Ascension Tour to the Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheatre on Thursday.
Miguel announced new tour dates back in June in support of his 2017 album War & Leisure. He’s making a stop in Charlotte before playing Hopscotch Music Festival on Friday night in Raleigh.
Since releasing War & Leisure in December, the Grammy-winning singer has been crisscrossing the country supporting his most political album yet. During his last Charlotte appearance at The Fillmore in March, Miguel called for freedom and social justice, but maintained his signature sexy style.
Since then, Miguel has been busy, and it’s been a pretty packed summer for the R&B star. He contributed a track to the Future-produced film soundtrack for Superfly, which came out in June. He also appeared on the GoldLink single “Got Friends” in the same month. Miguel earned another soundtrack credit with his song “Vote” for the movie Crazy Rich Asians. The song, produced by Mark Ronson and Hudson Mohawke, debuted online in mid-August.
He promised earlier this year he would release a Spanish version of War & Leisure and he recently debuted a video for the Spanish version of the track “Banana Clip.” He also released “Sky Walker” in Spanish in March. The album originally had one Spanish-language track – the Kali Uchis collaboration “Caramelo Duro.”
For The Ascension Tour, he’s taken Canadian R&B duo Dvsn on the road with him as the opening act. Dvsn – pronounced “division” – are signed to Drake’s OVO Sound label and released their sophomore album “Morning After” last fall.
Miguel has also reportedly brought his brother, who performs under the name Nonchalant Savant, on tour, as well as a full backing band for his own performance. Though he has a number of recent songs to promote in addition to War & Leisure, Miguel’s setlist will surely span his four-album catalog.
You can catch Miguel with Dvsn on Thursday, Sept. 6 at the Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheatre.
