Much Ado About Nothing

June 1-11, 2016 at The Frock Shop. Tickets: $30


PaperHouse Theatre presents an immersive experience of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing where the actors will travel through the play, inside, outside, around corners, and stairs, even joining in the masked revels, and enjoying some complimentary sips and nibbles.  A few audience members will even give voice to a character. (If that is not your bag they have a silent system to opt out. Nno unpleasant surprises, only happy ones!)

June is possibly the nerdiest month of the year in Charlotte and it kicks off with ConCarolinas. This gathering of geeks showcases the best in Science Fiction film, tv, and books as well as gaming and art. There are workshops and demonstrations devoted to everything from writing your own science fiction to debating the merits of various versions of Star Trek. Special guests include Nana Visitor who played Major Kira of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.  

National Cheese Day

June 4, 2016 8am-1pm at Charlotte Regional Farmers Market. FREE 


Cheese turophiles can get their fill of different types of cheese for free.  

Ghostbusters Re-release

June 8-12 at Stonecrest 22 (IMAX), Northlake Mall 14 (IMAX), Carolina Pavilion 22 and Phillips Place Stadium10. Tickets: $13 plus


Who you gonna call to see the original Ghostbusters on the big screen again? Ahead of the new all-female version coming out in July, strap on your proton packs to relive the first adventure of the OGBs (original Ghostbusters).

Crowntown Throwdown

June 11, 2016 12pm-4pm at Old Mecklenburg Brewery. Tickets: 2 person team $80


InReach (a private non-profit providing residential service and community supports to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities and their families) is throwing a cornhole tournament to raise money and set a Guinness World record for most teams. Each player receives two beer tickets, lunch and an event t-shirt. Live music will be provided by The Blue Dogs from Charleston. Grab a partner and have a good time for a good cause.

Beyond Rubik’s Cube Block Party

June 11, 2016 10am-6pm at Discovery Place. Tickets: $13-$17


Explore how the Rubik’s Cube emerged from a workshop in Hungary to become a worldwide phenomenon. Meet local cubers as they demonstrate talent in “extreme cubing” and other cube-inspired performances. Learn how to solve a Rubik’s Cube and explore the inner workings of this popular puzzle with cube dissections, scavenger hunts and more.


June 17-19, 2016 at Charlotte Convention Center. Tickets: $15-$40


The crown jewel of comic book culture in Charlotte returns for another weekend full of all your favorite comics-inspired activities. Rub elbows with the likes of Neal Adams, Jim Steranko, and Ramona Fradon. Bid on original pieces of art by some of the attendees or be judged on your own spontaneous pieces in the quick draw contests. One thing is for certain: there will be plenty of costumed fans to marvel at.

Science on the Rocks: Game Night

June 17, 2016 5pm-9pm at Discovery Place. Tickets: $10-$15


A week after the Beyond Rubik’s Cube exhibit opens, adults are invited to come try their hand at solving the puzzle.  Create your own 3D puzzles, learn secrets to solving the Cube, challenge a cube-solving robot or add your own work of art to a mosaic wall made entirely of Rubik’s Cube. Then go beyond the Cube and challenge your friends to a game of Jumbo Jenga, cheer on your favorite arthropod in our Cockroach Races, get in the game with Human Hungry Hungry Hippos and much more! An additional $5 gets you into a showing of the IMAX movie National Parks Adventure.

Paranormal Grounds Investigation

Join professional ghost hunters as they take no more than 30 guests through the grounds of Rosedale’s 200 year old plantation and attempt to make contact with the beyond. You will use the latest technology in partnership with the Charlotte Area Paranormal Society. Their team will lead the investigation. Please wear flat, quiet comfortable shoes and bring a small twist top flashlight. You never know what you may find… or what may find you!

Clash of the Bots

June 25, 2016 10am-5pm at Schiele Museum of Natural History. Tickets: $3 with museum admission.


Robots invade the Schiele Museum! See robots play hockey and clash with one another in battles of finesse and brute strength. Enjoy robotic hands-on activities and crafts. Hopefully this won’t lead to a robotic uprising!

Monica Bill Barnes & Company and Ira Glass, host of This American Life, have been working together to combine two art forms that– as Ira puts it– “have no business being together: dance and radio.” The result is a funny, lively and heartfelt evening of dance and stories that’s brought down the house wherever it’s been performed. The show includes radio interviews restaged as dance pieces, plus stories from the lives of each of the three performers: Ira Glass, Monica Bill Barnes and Anna Bass. This will certainly be a one-of-a-kind show.  

Teas of the British Isles: Legends and Mysteries of England

It’s tea time at the Charlotte Museum of History. The Charlotte Museum of History is hosting a series of afternoon teas accompanied by lectures that explore the history of the British Isles. Their June tea focuses on the famous legends and mysteries in English history, such as Robin Hood, King Arthur, and Stonehenge.  You will enjoy an Irish-themed menu of tea sandwiches, scones, and desserts, along with a favorite Irish tea.

Rifftrax Live celebrates its 10th year by inviting members of Mystery Science Theater 3000 to riff on a cavalcade of goofy, educational short films and comic interludes before concluding the evening with a grand finale “SUPER RIFF-A-PALOOZA!” A LIVE reunion featuring your favorite MST3K stars, Joel Hodgson, Trace Beaulieu, Frank Conniff, Mary Jo Pehl, Bridget Nelson and the host of the revived MST3K, Jonah Ray.
