North America’s longest-running touring festival, Warped Tour, is nearly upon us. Once again, the lineup promises a fun-filled, sunburnt summer. With old favorites such as Memphis May Fire and Silverstein to first timers I Prevail, founder Kevin Lyman receives a round of applause for putting the music in the limelight for the 23rd year running.

Check out our list of the five must-see bands on the, surprisingly heavy, Warped Tour lineup this year:

Andy Black

Yes, you read that right: Andy Black. The front man is leaving Black Veil Brides behind and going solo this summer with his debut record The Shadow Side. We all know what Andy brought to the table with his BVB comrades and, honestly, had the entire band been on this year’s Warped Tour, they’d probably not make the list. However, because Andy’s solo work boasts a new look and sound that’s too enjoyable to resist, he tops on this list.

Courage My Love

If you sift through this year’s lineup, you’ll be left with a few promising pop-infused bands, one of which being Courage My Love. Armed with their sophomore album Synesthesia, which differs greatly from the music they showcased at Warped Tour in 2014, the three-piece is poised for mainstream success. We get the feeling this could be the band’s last time on Warped Tour and you don’t want to live with the regret of having missed them.

Knocked Loose

If you’re into really heavy music, this is the band for you. Recently nominated for an APMA for “Best Underground Band,” these Kentucky boys are rising through the ranks fast. However, while their music is growing in popularity, Knocked Loose is a band you’d want to see more for their live set than anything else. If you scroll through comments under their music videos on YouTube, the majority of the community is wishing the best for all Warped Tour goers. That’s because most fans usually leave the pit bruised and bloodied after kicking and flailing about. If the show on stage isn’t entertaining enough, just pan through the crowd.

For those in Charlotte, remember when Beartooth headlined The Underground in October? Chances are that’ll never happen again and this year’s Warped Tour could be the last opportunity to see the band on a small stage. Caleb Shomo and Co. is one of the most talked about artists in the scene at the moment and there’s no sign of decline in the foreseeable future. Interested in a sneak peek? Check out Beartooth’s official live video for “Fair Weather Friend” on YouTube.

Rounding out this year’s lineup is slam-poet-turned-rapper Watsky. Like the many rappers before him, Watsky owes something to Def Jam Founder Russell Simmons for giving him a podium to showcase his unique talent. However, unlike rappers before him, Watsky’s style is one of a kind. He’s a versatile lyricist who weaves through silly and serious at a Busta Rhymes rate and he’s someone that shouldn’t be missed this year. Plus, he’s all about having a good time.
