The city is gearing up for the largest event to take over Charlotte since 2012’s Democratic National Convention. With an estimated $100 million in economic impact, All-Star Weekend will bring a plethora of events and parties to the city. The 68th annual NBA All-Star Game is also projected to bring in over 150,000 visitors with as many as 1500 media members representing 200 countries.
The weekend will kick off with the NBA All-Star “Crossover” event at the Epicentre with the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, Rising Stars, Media Day, Slam Dunk and 3-Point Contests showcasing the biggest stars in basketball, past and present. J. Cole will perform during the halftime show on Sunday while Meek Mill will open the night as the All-Star teams are introduced. In addition, Charlotte’s own Anthony Hamilton, who is scheduled to release his ninth full-length studio album this year will perform the National Anthem and Carly Rae Jepsen will sing the Canadian National Anthem.
Athletes, celebrities, artists, and DJs will host a wide range of parties at venues across the Queen City. Finding some of these events online can be a little daunting, so we put together a guide focusing mainly on music. With hip-hop culture being so heavily embedded in the NBA, a multitude of big-name rappers, DJs and celebrities will be calling Buzz City headquarters for the weekend.
