Update (5/23): Billy Joel has canceled all of his upcoming concerts after it was announced he was diagnosed with a brain disorder known as normal pressure hydrocephalus.
In a press conference at Bank of America Stadium, Live Nation, Tepper Sports & Entertainment, and Mayor Vi Lyles announced that Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Billy Joel and Sting will be performing in Charlotte on May 10. This marks the second major concert announcement at Bank of America Stadium, following the news of Metallica’s M72 World Tour coming to the Queen City on May 31. The two music icons will perform a “one-night-only” show — their only co-headlining stop in the Southeast.
This will be Sting’s first solo performance in Charlotte since 2004, although he did perform with The Police in 2007 during their Reunion Tour. Rising to prominence in the late ’70s as the frontman of the U.K. new wave band — with hits like “Roxanne” from their debut album Outlandos d’Amour — Sting has sold over 100 million records worldwide and has won 17 Grammy Awards collectively as a member of The Police and as a solo artist. Earlier this year, he performed with the San Francisco Symphony at Davies Symphony Hall and with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Kimmel Center, and also co-headlined two dates with Billy Joel in Tampa and San Diego.
Joel, who recently concluded his historic 10-year residency at Madison Square Garden in January, last performed in Charlotte in 2022 — also at Bank of America Stadium. With a career spanning over five decades and 33 Top 40 hits like “Piano Man,” “Uptown Girl,” “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” and “The Longest Time,” Joel has won six Grammy Awards and sold over 160 million records.
“We’re just getting started,” said Chief Venues Officer of Tepper Sports & Entertainment, Caroline Wright. “We’re really excited about our event programming for 2025…and a few more in the coming weeks.”
Joel and Sting will also hit Indianapolis (February 8), Syracuse (April 11), and Salt Lake City (May 23) in 2025, in addition to the May 10 date in Charlotte at Bank of America Stadium.
Citi cardmembers will have first access to the presale beginning Monday, September 30 at 10 a.m. (Check back for the artist and Live Nation presale codes). Tickets will go on sale to the public starting Friday, October 4 at 9 a.m.
