Charlotte welcomes the return of the PGA Championship this week, as the world’s best golfers compete at Quail Hollow. New for 2025 are upgraded bleachers, expanded concessions, and an all-inclusive food system for fans. Rory McIlroy — a four-time winner at the course and fresh off his Masters win — leads the field alongside Scottie Scheffler, with Bryson DeChambeau, defending champ Xander Schauffele, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ludvig Åberg, and Brooks Koepka also in contention. Alternative country/rock singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson will return to Charlotte for two nights this week, following the release of his stellar new album Passage Du Desir, which came out in July under the alias Johnny Blue Skies. Produced with David Ferguson — known for his work with Johnny Cash, John Prine, and Tyler Childers — the eight-track album marked Simpson’s long-awaited return to music. This will be his first Charlotte appearance since the 2020 A Good Look’n Tour with Tyler Childers, which took place just before the Covid-19 lockdown.

Colombian pop star Shakira brings her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour to Charlotte, joined by Wyclef Jean and DJ D-Nice. Best known for her 2000s global hits “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Whenever, Wherever,” she released her 12th studio album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, in March 2024, which won Best Latin Pop Album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. Wyclef Jean, the Haitian rapper, singer-songwriter, and producer who co-founded the group Fugees, was also responsible for numerous hits in the late ’90s and 2000s, including co-writing “My Love Is Your Love” for Whitney Houston and “Maria Maria” for Santana. DJ D-Nice, who gained international fame through his Club Quarantine live sessions during Covid, will set the vibes for the evening.

Grammy Award-winning, genre-bending progressive bluegrass band Punch Brothers will perform at Charlotte’s historic Carolina Theatre this week. Comprised of master musicians Chris Thile (mandolin), Chris Eldridge (guitar), Paul Kowert (bass), Noam Pikelny (banjo), and Brittany Haas (violin), they’ll perform original compositions and innovative covers at the newly renovated venue.

Wilco with opener Waxahatchee at The Amp Ballantyne (6:30 p.m.)

Pioneers of experimental indie alt-country, Wilco — best known for their 2001 track “Jesus, Etc.” from the landmark album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot — will perform at The Amp Ballantyne alongside indie folk singer-songwriter Waxahatchee (Katie Crutchfield). Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is widely regarded as a cornerstone of 21st-century indie rock, and the band also won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album with A Ghost Is Born in 2004. Waxahatchee joins Wilco as the opening act, following the release of her acclaimed sixth studio album, Tigers Blood (2024), which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album.

Teddy Swims returns to Charlotte, bringing his dynamic vocals on tour in support of his latest album, I’ve Tried Everything but Therapy (Part 2). The Georgia native who first captivated audiences on YouTube with his covers has since become one of today’s most popular multi-genre artists. His latest album features collaborations across a wide musical spectrum, including Giveon, Muni Long, Coco Jones, and GloRilla. Opening the show is Canadian indie synth-pop artist Diamond Cafe.

Kansas City native Funny Marco, a comedian who has built a large following through pranks and awkward interviews on his Open Thoughts podcast, will perform four comedy sets in Charlotte this week at The Comedy Zone. Now based in Atlanta, he brings his spring stand-up tour to the Queen City. Is he actually funny in real life? You’ll have to find out for yourself.

Industrial/goth rock artist Marilyn Manson will perform in Charlotte for the first time since 2018, following the release of their 12th studio album, One Assassination Under God – Chapter 1, in November. Manson rose to prominence in the ’90s with several influential albums, including Portrait of an American Family (1994), Antichrist Superstar (1996), and Mechanical Animals (1998).

The Asian & Charlotte Dragon Boat Festival — one of the Carolinas’ largest Asian cultural events — returns this Saturday to Ramsey Creek Park in Lake Norman, featuring live performances, martial arts demonstrations, a cultural parade, traditional crafts, wellness booths, interactive games, and a juried talent show. Guests can sip boba tea or sugarcane juice while enjoying dishes from Vietnam, the Philippines, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, and more. Admission, parking, and shuttle service are free, with proceeds supporting CAACC’s year-round community programming and outreach.
