Charlotte FC kicks off its 2025 MLS Cup Playoff campaign Tuesday night against fifth-place New York City FC after finishing the regular season fourth in the Eastern Conference with a club-record 59 points. One of the league’s hottest teams, the Crown have won 11 of their last 13 matches. Charlotte and NYCFC split their two regular-season meetings, each winning 2-0 at home. As the higher seed, Charlotte will host Game 1 but will be without Wilfried Zaha, who is suspended following a red card against Philadelphia. In his absence, Kerwin Vargas, Liel Abada, and Idan Toklomati will lead the attack, while Harry Toffolo bolsters a backline that hasn’t conceded an open-play goal to NYCFC this season. New York enters on a two-match skid but remains dangerous, featuring strong defensive form and top scorers Alonso Martínez and Hannes Wolf. Sudanese-American rapper and producer Oddisee returns to Charlotte, bringing his rap artistry to Neighborhood Theatre for a performance spanning his prolific catalog. Known for his introspective lyrics and a sound that blends elements of jazz and soul, Oddisee released his latest full-length project, To What End, through his independent label in 2023. Opening the show is Charlotte’s Ahmir, best known for his collaborations with Mavi and for touring with him on the Laughing So Hard It Hurts and Shadowbox tours. Ahmir released his debut album Timeless in 2021, followed by the EP Everyday It Rains in 2023. He’s also dropped multiple singles this year, including “Treat U Right,” “Gotta Have It,” and “Moon,” featuring Mavi.

ImaginOn, the 102,000-square-foot youth library and theater, will host its annual Fall Festival on Wednesday. The festivities will begin with a seasonal family storytime at 10:30 a.m., followed by trick-or-treating, games, and craft stations throughout the building until noon. Recommended for children ages five and under, costumes are encouraged, and families can also enjoy a sensory-friendly celebration space in The Round, featuring activities and treats. Created by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, ImaginOn combines literacy, performing arts, and education through its children’s and teen libraries, two theaters, classrooms, multimedia studio, and interactive exhibits designed to bring stories to life and inspire creativity.

Northwest School of the Arts alum and Charlotte-area native Reneé Rapp returns home for her U.S. tour with Ravyn Lenae. The rising pop star and actress — best known for her portrayal of Regina George in both the Broadway musical Mean Girls and the 2024 film adaptation — released her debut studio album Snow Angel in 2023 and her latest, Bite Me, on August 1, which reached No. 3 on the Billboard charts. Rapp’s musical and theatrical journey took flight in 2018 when she won the Blumey Award for Best Actress for her performance as Sandra in Big Fish at Charlotte’s Belk Theater. That same year, she gained national recognition by winning Best Performance by an Actress at the prestigious Jimmy Awards in New York City, earning a $10,000 scholarship that helped launch her career. Lenae, a Chicago artist known for her jazz-infused pop stylings, who has performed at multiple major music festivals and toured with SZA on her Ctrl Tour and Noname on her Telefone Tour, will open the show.

Although they will be without Brandon Miller for at least a few weeks after he injured his shoulder against the 76ers, the Hornets appear poised for a potential playoff appearance if they can maintain their defensive intensity and offensive efficiency throughout the season. Makers on the Move is a free, all-ages creative workshop hosted by Do Greater Charlotte in partnership with the Harvey B. Gantt Center at Park Expo. In the “Poetry in Motion: Turn Words into Digital Arts” session, participants will craft a short poem inspired by a fun prompt and then use MacBook Airs and simple design tools to transform their words into visually expressive digital art. Attendees can save a digital copy to take home and have the option to share their creations with the group. The workshop is led by Charlotte-based poet, curator, and community-builder Dasia Hood.

Levine Museum of the New South and the Latin American Coalition present the annual Festival Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) at Camp North End, a celebration of the traditional Mexican holiday that honors loved ones who have passed. The festival will feature beautifully crafted ofrendas adorned with flowers and keepsakes; face painting with intricate and colorful skull designs; folkloric dancing and live mariachi music; and a delicious selection of authentic Mexican dishes such as tamales, tacos, pozole, and pan de muertos. Attendees can also enjoy a bilingual screening of Disney and Pixar’s Coco, along with interactive activities for all ages.

Charlotte Roller Derby returns for a Halloween weekend event with “Nautical Nightmare,” a double-header showdown featuring Team Charlotte facing off against Atlanta Dirty South Derby, followed by the Bad Assets taking on the Atlanta Rumble B’s. Each bout features two teams of five — three blockers, one pivot, and one jammer — competing in short rounds called “jams.” The jammer scores points by passing opposing players, while blockers and pivots work to control the pack’s speed and prevent scoring. Each match consists of two 30-minute periods, with the ultimate goal of outscoring the opposing team. Between the intense action, fans can enjoy halftime entertainment, including kids’ and skater races, games like Chuck-A-Duck, raffles, and the crowd-favorite Adult Hungry Hippos. The night caps off with an after-party at Tommy’s Pub.

Long Beach, California R&B star Giveon will headline the final concert of the year at Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre on Saturday night, joined by South London’s Sasha Keable and Toronto’s Charlotte Day Wilson. Giveon released his latest album, Beloved, in July, and his 2020 EP Take Time was nominated for Best R&B Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. Best known for his hit “Heartbreak Anniversary,” he has also collaborated with Drake (“Chicago Freestyle” and “In the Bible”), Justin Bieber (“Peaches”), and Teddy Swims (“Are You Even Real”). Keable is touring behind her new EP Act Right, released in March, while Charlotte Day Wilson released her latest album Cyan Blue in 2024, which was nominated for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.

The Happy Fits are touring following the release of their new album Lovesick in September, which followed 2022’s Under the Shade of Green.
