The struggles continued for the Hornets, who lost their eighth straight game and 11 of their last 12 against the Timberwolves on Wednesday night. The Timberwolves shot 48.9% from the field and an impressive 42.9% from three-point range, led by Jaden McDaniels, who scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. The Hornets remained competitive for most of the game until Minnesota went on a 10-0 run to extend the lead to 22 in the fourth quarter.

LaMelo Ball played 36 minutes, scoring 28 points with 10 rebounds and six assists, but struggled with efficiency, shooting 39.3% from the field and 4-of-12 from three-point range. Since the All-Star break, Ball is shooting just 35.5% while averaging 3.7 turnovers per game. As a team, the Hornets haven’t fared much better, averaging 98.9 points per game while shooting 39.6% from the field and an abysmal 29.2% from beyond the arc.

The Cavaliers will come into town boasting the league’s best record at 52-10, having won their last 12 games. Donovan Mitchell has been on a tear, averaging 27.4 points over his last seven games while shooting 47.3% from the field and 40.4% from three-point range. The Cavaliers are one of the most efficient teams in the league, boasting an effective field goal percentage of 58.6% while shooting 39.3% from long range — they also lead the league in points per game (123.1).
