To celebrate Women’s History Month, JazzArts Charlotte’s Jazz Room will present a special concert at Stage Door Theater featuring Camille Thurman, an award-winning saxophonist, vocalist, and composer. Making her Jazz Room debut, Thurman will be joined by acclaimed jazz drummer Darrell Green and his quartet.

A native of Queens, New York, Thurman is an Independent Music Award winner, an NAACP Image Award nominee, and a two-time recipient of the ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Award. She released her latest album, Confluence, Vol. 1 Alhambra, in 2024 in collaboration with Green. Thurman was also a part of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, making history as the first woman in 30 years to tour, record, and perform full-time with the orchestra as a saxophonist between 2018-2020.

Thurman’s first two albums, Inside the Moment (2017) and Waiting for the Sunrise (2018), both released on Chesky Records, reached No. 25 and No. 3 on the Billboard Jazz Albums Chart, with Waiting for the Sunrise debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard Traditional Jazz Albums Chart.

This performance will wrap up Season 21 of the Jazz Room with a mix of classic jazz standards and original works, including selections from her latest album with Green, in a special tribute to the legacy of women in jazz.

The Jazz Room is an intimate and casual concert setting produced by the local nonprofit JazzArts Charlotte, paying tribute to the classic jazz rooms of yesteryear, featuring cabaret tables and a full bar at Stage Door Theater in Uptown.
