The US National Whitewater Center will be adding a massive ice skating rink! The upper pond area of the Whitewater Center will transform into a one-of-a-kind 17,000 sq. ft. ice skating area in November just in time for the winter.
The Whitewater Center has also commissioned the creation of a sensory light experience through the forest featuring illuminated installations created by Charlotte artist Meredith Connelly. The installation will lead down a half-mile walking trail that leads viewers through a series of immersive installations featuring crystals, honeycombs, vines, and more.
The new rink will feature three distinct areas for programming. Guests will be able to experience a 600 ft. ice trail along the perimeter in addition to a free skate area and activity zone where guests can participate in winter sports. You’ll also be able skate up to order a hot chocolate, coffee, and beer. Ice skating will require annual pass, day pass, or single activity pass starting at $20. All passes will also include skate rental in addition to the access.
Update: The grand opening of Ice Skating and Lights will be Tuesday, November 19, 2019.
