MaxxMusic and Midwood Entertainment have announced the first major hip-hop concert at The Amp Ballantyne, bringing the dynamic rap duo Run the Jewels back to Charlotte on June 5, 2025. Comprised of lyricist Killer Mike and producer/rapper El-P, the powerhouse musical tandem will return to the Queen City for the first time since 2017.

Activist and rapper Michael Render (best known as Killer Mike), who got his start in the early 2000s appearing on the Outkast album, Stankonia, is coming off his critically acclaimed sixth studio album, Michael, which won three awards at the 66th Annual Grammys, including Best Rap Album. El-P, who rose to prominence with the indie hip-hop trio Company Flow in the ’90s, is also the founder of the record label Definitive Jux, which housed artists like Aesop Rock, Del the Funky Homosapien, Cannibal Ox, and Murs. He has released four studio albums as a solo artist including Cancer 4 Cure, which was considered one of the best rap releases of 2012 according to multiple music publications including Consequence of Sound, Paste, and Pitchfork.

The Atlanta rapper Killer Mike and Brooklyn-based producer/lyricist El-P, first met in 2011 through Adult Swim executive Jason DeMarco, finding instant musical chemistry and releasing their debut self-titled album as Run the Jewels in 2013. El-P’s hard-hitting, futuristic beats seamlessly complemented Killer Mike’s fiery and politically charged lyrics, and the duo have since sold out venues and played festivals worldwide. Releasing four studio albums since 2013 with their latest, RTJ4, in 2020, they also opened for Rage Against the Machine’s Public Service Announcement Tour in 2022, celebrating their 10th anniversary with concerts in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, and Los Angeles in 2023.

An opening act will also be announced in the coming months. Presale will begin on Thursday, November 21 at 10 a.m. with tickets going on sale to the public Friday, November 22 at 10 a.m.
