Chicago rap virtuoso and leader of the Pivot Gang, Saba has announced a headlining tour kicking off in June with a stop in Charlotte at The Underground on June 11. The Big Picture Tour follows the release of his latest critically acclaimed album From the Private Collection of Saba, a collaborative project with Grammy Award-winning Chicago producer No I.D.

Originally conceived as a mixtape, the project underwent several transformations before becoming a full-length album. The passing of Saba’s uncle — the man who first sparked his love for hip-hop — delayed the release.

“He’s the person who made me fall in love with hip-hop,” Saba communicated through the press release announcing the tour. “It made me want to re-approach things; I had to have a lot of conversations with myself that I hadn’t had to have in a long time.”

The album features a slew of collaborations, including Smino, Raphael Saadiq, Kelly Rowland, Madison McFerrin, Ogi, Jordan Ward, Ibeyi, Jean Deaux, BJ The Chicago Kid, and Eryn Allen Kane.

Saba initially gained recognition with two independent mixtapes: GETCOMFORTable (2012) and ComfortZone (2014), and further garnered attention with his feature on Chance the Rapper’s Acid Rap mixtape (“Everybody’s Something”). He released his debut album Bucket List Project in 2016, followed by CARE FOR ME in 2018, and Few Good Things in 2022. In addition to leading Pivot Gang, he is also one-third of the Chicago supergroup Ghetto Sage, alongside Smino and Noname.

The Big Picture Tour spans 13 dates with support from Oakland rapper and producer Ovrkast, who released his latest album, Kast Got Wings, in October, and is also known for his work on Earl Sweatshirt’s 2019 EP Feet of Clay, along collaborations with Charlotte’s Mavi and Pink Siifu.

Artist presale begins today (April 16, at 10 a.m.) with tickets going on sale to the public on April 18 at 10 a.m.
