St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, Your Custom Catering, Hearts Beat As One Foundation, Sacred Souls and more community partners will be providing free lunch for children in Charlotte focusing on the most vulnerable areas (28216, 28205, 28206 and 28217) during the Coronavirus-forced school closures for the next two weeks and beyond, if necessary.
The free lunch program will be offered at two locations Monday through Friday beginning on Tuesday, March 17 at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church (will now only offer pick-up) and Sacred Souls Community Church (will offer drive-up service only) starting on Wednesday, March 18 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. All students who choose to dine-in at St. Luke’s will be required to wash their hands upon arrival and practice social distancing recommendations by the CDC.
St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church feeds more than 5,000 children each summer and Your Custom Catering & Events is joining the efforts as a partner during these tough times. “This is an opportunity to reach those most in need. In many cases this is the only meal that these children will have daily and it is essential that we continue that during these closures,” said Chef Nate Turner of Custom Catering & Events. Chef Turner and his staff will also be taking extra health precautions washing their hands more often, cleaning and disinfecting hard surfaces more frequently.
The partnership is made possible by the HB1 Foundation who has initially pledged $7,500 and will provide the volunteers to distribute meals at the Sacred Souls Community Church location.
