Anthony Hamilton hasn’t been slowed down much by the global pandemic, in fact, with his recent contributions to several charitable organizations and digital performances, the Grammy Award-winning artist has been in the ears and minds of many. Starting with his gripping rendition of the Ben E. King classic “Stand By Me” for the Alzheimer’s Association’s Music Moments compilation album to his appearances on BET’s Saving OurSelves relief event and the North Carolina music benefit Under One Roof, Hamilton is a shining light and comforting voice for many during these challenging times.
Now the multi-platinum singer-songwriter has released a new single “Back Together,” a deeply soulful boom-bap R&B/hip-hop track soaked with nostalgia from the ‘80s and ‘90s. Produced by 9th Wonder and featuring samples from Rick James’ “Fire and Desire,” the tender song marks the first time the North Carolina natives have worked together since “Stutter,” on the 2010 David Banner and 9th Wonder collaborative album, Death of a Pop Star.
“9th Wonder flipped the sample right in front of me. I wrote the song in a way to make it feel like Rick was singing along with me. ‘Back Together’ pays homage to one of the greats. To me, it’s also about love and getting back together with someone you knew was special,” said Hamilton.
Hamilton has also launched his own label My Music Box in partnership with BMG, and “Back Together” marks the first release under the new affiliation, paving the way for his new full-length album expected to be released this summer. The album will be the first since Hamilton’s 2016 project, What I’m Feelin’.
