Spring has arrived. And with it comes warmer weather, more daylight, and the buzz of new event announcements. One that has been highly anticipated is the 2022-23 Blumenthal Performing Arts Broadway season.

“We’re going all out and bringing even more shows for our audiences to enjoy,” said Blumenthal President and CEO Tom Gabbard. “The lineup coming to Charlotte next season offers something for everyone, but what all of these shows have in common is the transcendent entertainment of theater.”

Music lovers will be delighted to see several musical productions featuring well-known artists. Kicking off the season is the 2020 Tony Award nominee for Best Musical, Jagged Little Pill. Slated to stop in Charlotte in late November of 2022, the jukebox musical was inspired by the music of Alanis Morisette’s 1995 Grammy Award winning album of the same name. The music complements the production as it follows the trials and tribulations of the so-called “perfect” American family.

TINA – the Tina Turner Musical, featuring the music of the rock and roll queen will make a stop at Charlotte’s Belk Theater in late December. The 2020 Tony Award-nominated musical follows the story of Tina Turner on her journey from humble beginnings to becoming a music icon.

For the child in all of us, be sure to bookmark the end of March 2023 for the production of Beetlejuice. Based on Tim Burton’s 1988 hit fantasy comedy film, the musical follows the story of Lydia Deetz, a peculiar teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and, of course, Beetlejuice. With a Tony-nominated original score including the internationally recognized song, “Day-O,” and wondrous set designs, it’s a production that should appeal to film, theater and music lovers.

Charlotte will welcome back the musical, Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations, in July of 2023. The Tony Award-winning production follows the rise of the Detroit quintet on their journey to making 42 Billboard top-10 hits during a time of civil unrest. Featuring “My Girl,” “Just My Imagination,” “Get Ready,” and “Papa Was a Rolling Stone,” Ain’t Too Proud is perfect for Motown and R&B fans.

Eight-time 2011 Tony Award-winning play, Book of Mormon, highlights the 2022-2023 Blumenthal season, making its return in August of 2023. Created by Matt Stone and Trey Parks of hit animated comedy television show, South Park, audience members are in for a good laugh. The satirical comedy follows a pair of Latter-day Saints missionaries as they are sent to a rural village in Uganda to preach the good word.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the production of Chicago will be arriving in Charlotte in September 2023. The musical is not only a six-time Tony Award-winner, but also took home a Grammy in 1998 for Best Musical Theater Album. Taking place in Chicago during the height of 1920s jazz, the production features countless original scores paired with mesmerizing dance numbers, which has made it a fan favorite of jazz and theater aficionados alike.

One of Broadway’s newest productions, MJ, will be arriving in Charlotte in late September of 2023. The musical follows the story of the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson, as he prepares for his 1992 world tour, Dangerous. Featuring over 25 of Michael Jackson’s biggest hits and iconic dance moves, relive his electrifying performances and celebrate the pop icon.

The new season is rounded out with A Soldier’s Play, 9 to 5 The Musical, 1776, SIX, Dear Evan Hanen, Les Miserables, Come from Away, Annie, Disney’s Aladdin, and Riverdance.
