Aasher Saintt, the genre-defying Charlotte rapper, singer, and producer born Asher Jones, approaches his music and artistic vision through the lens of a psychological thriller set against a neo-noir aesthetic. Rather than centering on the motif of crime or violence, his work is grounded in spirituality, weaving coded symbolism and layered narratives into a body of work that reflects both his sonic influences and upbringing.

“Storytelling is important. I love movies. When I build my worlds, I want the messaging to feel like a tragedy — something a little eerie or unsettling,” Jones said.
Born in Prince George’s County, Maryland and raised in Northeast Washington, D.C., Jones spent much of his early childhood navigating housing instability, moving between apartments and shelters. At eight years old, he relocated to California to live with his uncle, splitting time between Compton and Crenshaw neighborhoods of Los Angeles before moving to Charlotte at age 11.

But while his formative years were spent in some of the roughest neighborhoods in the country, his earliest enduring artistic impressions came from attending a performing arts school — William E. Doar Jr. Public Charter School for the Performing Arts in Northeast Washington, D.C. — where he was admitted through a lottery system. There, he was introduced to music, drama, and dance, even learning ballet at a young age. He continued developing his dance and theatrical interests after moving to Charlotte, attending the now-defunct Community Charter School in Uptown, where he performed in his first play, a production of Dreamgirls.

His debut album, MAY GOD HEAR YOU!, released in December — though he has been releasing tracks and projects periodically since 2015 — is a concept album that weaves nine distinct tracks into a sleek, industrial hip-hop soundscape enriched by hallowed, hymnal textures. Throughout the project, Aasher showcases his hybrid singing-rapping vocal style within a cinematic framework.
“The overall message came from a conversation me and my little brother had years ago, and I basically felt like it could be a tragedy for people to go through life and be busy with relationships, be busy with chasing careers… just doing their own thing and missing the voice of God,” Jones said.
The album opens with an unanswered call and voicemail prompt, layered over haunting synths and Aasher’s yearning voice — reverent and echoing — as it builds into gospel-tinged, ethereal murmurs. It then transitions into “LOST!,” a self-reflective track that crescendos into a booming hook: “two bad bitches brought the weed,” a line that may symbolize coping mechanisms, worldly distractions, and his own wayward paths.
Aasher frames the world of MAY GOD HEAR YOU! around the idea of missing a higher calling, following a central character — a young woman navigating alcoholism, chaotic late nights, and an unfocused life — who repeatedly overlooks divine guidance, symbolized through recurring phone call excerpts threaded throughout the album.
Yet, MAY GOD HEAR YOU! is not a sermon. On “POP IT!,” a futuristic, trap-leaning standout featuring the album’s lone rap guest, Big YBA of Durham, North Carolina, Aasher embraces a seductive, club-driven energy that balances the project’s spiritual undertones with more risqué subject matter.
“MADAM PUPPETEER” carries the sonic DNA of a 2000s Trackmasters-style production — bouncy, polished, and built for crossover R&B and hip-hop appeal — infused with Mariachi textures and rhythmic vihuela-like guitar plucks. Danceable yet layered with depth, the track finds Aasher crooning through a trance-like fixation on a woman, entangled in a web of infatuation. Meanwhile, “ME AND MY MISTRESS!” leans into a modern Caribbean dancehall rhythm, exploring the provocative subject of a ménage à trois.
While Aasher produces the majority of his own music, MAY GOD HEAR YOU! was a collaborative effort with Charlotte producers JStacks and Isaac Bynum, whose contributions helped shape the album’s sonic palette. Their fingerprints are especially evident on tracks like the opening “HOLY!,” “TEMPT ME!,” and “POP IT!,” while songs such as “LOST!,” “MRS. MAGIC!,” and “SINNERS!” lean more heavily into Aasher’s own production and creative vision.

Aasher says his creative process typically begins with humming melodies as a foundation, which he often captures immediately on his phone.
“I could be anywhere… I’m just going to put in my voice notes,” he said. “I’ll play them [his production team] the idea, or I’ll play myself the idea again, and just get to creating it. It’s very rare when I start with the drums by itself.”
MAY GOD HEAR YOU! is a well-constructed concept album that holds the listener in a spellbinding grip, weaving ultra-modern strains of hip-hop, gospel, soul, and R&B into expansive, atmospheric soundscapes. Framed with a theatrical scope, the project follows its central muse through chaos and desire while simultaneously confronting Aasher’s personal transgressions and his own struggle to answer a sacred calling — an unraveling that ultimately ends in tragedy.

Aasher is now under the management and tutelage of High Point native E. Sudd — DJ for 2 Chainz and an industry executive who has firmly established himself in the Charlotte music scene through his No Stress Sound Academy production house and Busted Speakers events, while also managing North Carolina country-rap crossover artist Anella and maintaining a high-profile touring DJ career.
Aasher first formally met Sudd in 2024 and later performed his single “ME AND MY MISTRESS!” — which appears on MAY GOD HEAR YOU! — at a Busted Speakers event after the track caught Sudd’s attention, and the two have been locked in ever since.

Beyond a managerial role, Sudd has also served as a mentor and big-brother figure, introducing Aasher to experiences he envisioned growing up: backstage access at major concerts, visits to Def Jam offices, and even an introduction to 2 Chainz.
“Sudd is that guy; manager, label, yeah, everything,” he said. “My learning experiences and, like, the ins and outs of different stuff. That’s also something I just love to soak in.”
Aasher, now 24, is a Northeast D.C. native and a performing arts kid at heart whose upbringing spanned inner-city communities on both coasts. Firmly rooted in Charlotte with Sudd by his side — whom he credits with helping bridge the city’s music scenes — the Rocky River High School grad is only beginning to fully realize his creative vision, using his art to search for a deeper calling while carving out a distinct sonic lane of his own.

Aasher will perform MAY GOD HEAR YOU! live alongside artists Rezza, Lluvya, and SEVN at his free Saintt Summer concert on July 15 at No Stress Sound Academy. Listen to MAY GOD HEAR YOU! and follow Aasher Saintt on Instagram.
