Celebrate the spirit of jazz at The Bill Hanna Legacy Jazz Session, every Monday night at Petra’s. A tribute to the late, great Bill Hanna, who was widely known as the godfather of Charlotte jazz. The weekly event brings together some of the city’s best musicians for a night of improvisational performances.

West Coast hip-hop icons Cypress Hill — joined by Atmosphere, Lupe Fiasco, and The Pharcyde — will bring their Dank Daze of Summer Tour to Charlotte this week. It marks Cypress Hill’s first Charlotte show since 2019, following their 2022 album Back in Black and a recent performance with the London Symphony Orchestra. Atmosphere, the Minneapolis underground rap duo behind Rhymesayers Entertainment, has released 13 albums and collaborated with artists like Aesop Rock and MF DOOM. Grammy winner Lupe Fiasco, known for Food & Liquor, The Cool, and Lasers, dropped his latest album Samurai in June. The Pharcyde, famed for “Passin’ Me By” and “Runnin’,” returns to Charlotte for the first time since their 2022 anniversary tour for Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde.

Immediate Family at Booth Playhouse (July 29-August 31)

Blumenthal Arts presents the regional premiere of Immediate Family, a bold and timely new play written by Hamilton alum Paul Oakley Stovall and directed by Tony Award winner Phylicia Rashad. Set on Chicago’s South Side, Immediate Family follows the Bryant family as they reunite for a wedding — only to have their carefully curated image disrupted when the middle son unexpectedly brings his Swedish boyfriend. What unfolds is a funny, heartfelt, and unflinchingly honest portrait of a modern family navigating love, loyalty, and generational change. Described as Modern Family meets Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, the play tackles themes of race, sexuality, identity, and tradition through the lens of an African American family grappling with the evolving values of the 21st century.

Jazz fusion maestros Justin Stanton (keyboards, trumpet) and Chris Bullock (saxophone, flute) from the Grammy-winning jazz collective Snarky Puppy bring their new project, Close Knobs, to Charlotte’s Snug Harbor this week. This new collaboration features Stanton and Bullock, joined by drummer Kurt Stracener (Mellow Swells) and bassist Quinn Sternberg. Their sound is shaped by Brazilian music, electronic textures, and free improvisation, which they describe as “Nascimento meets Alice Coltrane meets Flying Lotus.”

Florencia & the Feeling, the soulful indie folk project led by Argentine-born singer-songwriter Florencia Rusinol, will headline Petra’s on Thursday night, alongside North Carolina funk/soul band Duck and Charlotte R&B/hip-hop singer-songwriter Celeste Moonchild. Florencia & the Feeling recently performed at FloydFest, where they won the On-the-Rise Competition. The band consists of Rusinol (vocals), Andrew Kramer (guitar), Isaac Ratliff (keys), Nick Castro (bass), and Austin Herron (drums). They released two singles in 2025: “Getting on a Plane” in March and “Lifetime” in May, following their debut full-length album, Birthday, in 2023.

Charlotte Pride returns this weekend at First Ward Park and surrounding streets in Uptown Charlotte.
