Tina Turner Musical at Belk Theater (June 10-15)

Opening this week at Belk Theater in Charlotte, TINA – The Tina Turner Musical chronicles the remarkable life of the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll” and 12-time Grammy Award winner Tina Turner. From her humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her meteoric rise to global superstardom, the musical captures the strength, resilience, and triumph of the late icon’s extraordinary life and career. Set to a soundtrack of her most beloved hits — including “Proud Mary,” “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” and “The Best” — the show tells the story of one of the best-selling recording artists of all time. Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Katori Hall and directed by Phyllida Lloyd, it’s a celebration of a woman who refused to be defined by her past — and instead used it as fuel to light the world on fire.

Mannequin Pussy with opener Deux Visages at Neighborhood Theatre (8:00 p.m.)

Coming off their performance at Governor’s Ball, Philadelphia punk rockers Mannequin Pussy will headline the Neighborhood Theatre. Formerly signed to Tiny Engines and now with Epitaph Records, the band released their latest album, I Got Heaven, in March 2024. Fronted by singer-songwriter and guitarist Marisa Dabice, Mannequin Pussy blends punk, indie rock, grunge, and shoegaze, delivering gritty guitar tones and driving drums paired with deeply honest and sometimes politically charged lyrics.

Chicago lyricist Saba brings his Big Picture Tour to Charlotte this week at The Underground, following the release of his latest acclaimed album, From the Private Collection of Saba, a collaborative project with Grammy-winning producer No I.D. Originally planned as a mixtape, the album’s release was delayed by the passing of Saba’s uncle, who inspired his love for hip-hop. The project features collaborations with artists such as Smino, Raphael Saadiq, Kelly Rowland, and BJ The Chicago Kid.

K-pop and hip-hop sensation 82Major is set to make their Charlotte debut with a stop at Heist Brewery and Barrel Arts as part of their 82 Syndrome tour. Fresh off the release of their latest EP, Silence Syndrome, the six-member group — Cho Seong-il, Yoon Ye-chan, Nam Seong-mo, Hwang Seong-bin, Park Seok-joon, and Kim Do-gyun — has been turning heads with their genre-blending sound, fusing hip-hop, R&B, and pop.

Mo’ Betta Thursdays is a weekly jazz event hosted by Braxton Bateman in collaboration with A-part[meant] — a boutique spotlighting contemporary womenswear, accessories, and local artwork. Held at The Exchange at 36th, the event brings together some of Charlotte’s top musicians for an evening of blues, funk, jazz, and soulful improvisation.

Los Angeles-based indie punk project Illuminati Hotties, the brainchild of Grammy-winning producer and engineer Sarah Tudzin, headlines Snug Harbor on Thursday night. The band broke out in 2018 with their debut Kiss Yr Frenemies and released their latest album, POWER, in 2024. They’ll be joined by Australian indie rock singer-songwriter Georgia Maq (formerly of Camp Cope) and New York-based, Detroit-born artist Allie.

Charlotte Checkers vs. Abbotsford Canucks (Calder Cup Finals) at Bojangles Coliseum (7:00 p.m.)

The 2025 Calder Cup Finals are set to begin this Friday, with the hometown Charlotte Checkers hosting the Western Conference champion Abbotsford Canucks at Bojangles Coliseum. It’s the Checkers’ first appearance in the Finals since their 2019 championship victory, and they’re coming off an impressive run, having swept the Laval Rocket in the Eastern Conference Finals with a dominant 18-6 goal differential. The Abbotsford Canucks, the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks, finished second in the Western Conference and advanced to the Finals after defeating the Texas Stars 4-2 in their series.

Lyn Lapid at Amos’ Southend (7:30 p.m.)

Filipino American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lyn Lapid makes her Charlotte debut this week. A classically trained pianist and violinist from Baltimore, she taught herself guitar and ukulele before gaining widespread attention in 2018 with her viral TikTok cover of “Best Part” by Daniel Caesar and H.E.R., amassing over 4.8 million followers and 161.6 million likes. Lapid’s 2022 EP The Outsider and 2023’s to love in the 21st century EP further established her as a rising star, seamlessly blending alternative R&B, indie rock, and pop. In April 2025, she released her debut full-length album, BUZZKILL, which explores themes of loneliness, self-acceptance, and the complexities of life in Los Angeles.

Joining them will be Miami-based psych rock and jazz trio Anemoia.

Northwest indie rockers Modest Mouse, best known for their songs “Float On” and “Dashboard,” return to Charlotte this weekend.
