Charlotte’s skateboarding history takes the spotlight with Central Impact: Skateboarding’s Art and Influence, now on view at Mint Museum Randolph through January 4. The exhibition, presented in partnership with Deckaid and Black Sheep Skate Shop, celebrates the evolution of skate culture both locally and globally. Visitors will find rare skate decks, original artwork, and archival media spanning the 1980s to today, alongside works by influential artists like Marc McKee, Sean Cliver, and Andy Jenkins. Nostalgic touches include VHS skate tapes, early Black Sheep skate videos, and photos documenting Charlotte’s skate scene in the ’90s and 2000s. At its core, Central Impact is a tribute to the skaters, artists, and DIY builders who shaped the Southeast’s skateboarding culture. Proceeds from the exhibition benefit the Charlotte Skate Foundation, supporting community-driven skate spaces like Kilborne DIY.
