The NBA released its full league-wide schedule for the 2022-23 season. The Hornets will open the regular season on the road against the San Antonio Spurs on October 19 before returning to Charlotte for their home opener against the New Orleans Pelicans on October 21. Steph Curry and the defending champion Golden State Warriors visit Charlotte on October 29 and the Eastern Conference Champion Boston Celtics will come to town for a two-game set on January 14 and 16, the latter of which will be broadcast on NBA TV on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The Hornets will appear on national television three times this season; twice on ESPN and once on TNT. The first Ball Brothers matchup of the season will be on ESPN on November 2 before they meet again January 26 on TNT. The final national television game of the season comes on ESPN against the Celtics on February 10. Along with the MLK Day game on NBA TV, the Hornets will appear on the league’s subscription-based national broadcast channel three times between December 21-27. Of course, teams can always be flexed in and out of nationally televised games based on in-season performance, so there’s a chance the Hornets play more (or less) games on ESPN or TNT.
A new feature to the NBA schedule this season is “Rivalry Week,” which will begin on January 24 and include the LaMelo-Lonzo Ball matchup on January 26. The Hornets don’t really have a natural rival, so it’s fun to showcase the sibling rivalry instead. Clippers-Lakers, Celtics-Lakers and Knicks-Nets are among some of the more traditional rivalries the NBA has scheduled for that week.
The Hornets will play back-to-back games 11 times during the 2022-23 season and their longest road trip is an 11-day excursion out west in late December. They’ll travel to Cleveland to wrap up the season with a Sunday matinee against the Cavaliers on April 9.
A comprehensive list of fun facts about the Charlotte Hornets’ 2022-23 schedule can also be found here. Let the countdown begin for the new NBA season.
