A special screening of If I Go Will They Miss Me comes to Charlotte’s Independent Picture House this week. Written, directed and edited by Walter Thompson-Hernández, the 2026 drama expands on his 2022 short film of the same name and stars J. Alphonse Nicholson, Danielle Brooks, Bodhi Dell, Myles Bullock and Bre-Z. Set in Los Angeles’ Watts neighborhood, the film follows 12-year-old Lil Ant as he attempts to reconnect with his father, Big Ant, who has recently returned home following another stint in jail. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January before receiving a U.S. theatrical release in September. The Sunday screening will include a virtual post-film discussion with co-star J. Alphonse Nicholson following the 12 p.m. showing, presented in partnership with Loyd Studios.

The Canadian actor and musician is touring in support of his second solo album, Fire from the Hip, released in July, following his 2025 debut, Happy Birthday. Wolfhard’s musical roots stretch back to Vancouver-based rock band Calpurnia, where he served as lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and songwriter until the group disbanded in 2019. He then formed The Aubreys with former Calpurnia drummer Malcolm Craig, with the duo releasing their debut EP, Soda & Pie, in 2020 and their first studio album, Karaoke Alone, in 2021.

After a busy summer that included launching her own Daisy Chain Fields festival, Olivia Rodrigo brings her Unraveled Tour to Charlotte for a two-night run at Spectrum Center. Rodrigo hits the road following the release of her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, released in June, for one of the year’s most anticipated tours. The album marks a new chapter for the 23-year-old singer-songwriter, drawing inspiration from her time in London and exploring a more experimental pop-rock sound while continuing her longtime collaboration with producer Dan Nigro. The album follows her Grammy-winning 2023 release, Guts, and its sold-out world tour, which included a Charlotte stop in 2024. Her debut album, Sour, launched Rodrigo into global stardom with the breakout single “Drivers License,” which made her the youngest artist at the time to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. British alternative rock band Wolf Alice will serve as the opening act. Led by vocalist Ellie Rowsell, the London-based group has built a reputation for blending indie rock, dream pop and shoegaze, with their atmospheric sound evolving into a more polished pop-rock style on its latest album, The Clearing, released in 2025. The band’s 2017 album, Visions of a Life, won the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2018.

South Korean indie rock trio wave to earth brings its dreamy blend of soft indie rock and jazz influences to Charlotte, featuring lead vocalist and guitarist Daniel Kim, drummer Dong Q and bassist John Cha. The Seoul-based band has developed an international following, drawing influences from artists including Radiohead, Bon Iver, Oasis, King Krule, Tame Impala and Jeff Buckley. After releasing their debut single, “Wave,” in 2019 and a pair of EPs the following year, wave to earth released their debut studio album, 0.1 Flaws and All., in 2023, followed by Play with Earth! 0.03 in 2024 and their latest, bad pieces, in August, continuing their musical evolution. The Mint Museum’s Mint 2 Move Cultural Dance Night brings an evening of Afro-Latin music, dance and visual art to Charlotte with a special Brooklyn-to-Charlotte celebration highlighting the legacy of the famed Puerto Rican family band LeBron Brothers, which became one of the most important groups in the development of New York salsa and Latin music. Angel LeBron, bassist, arranger and co-leader of the influential salsa group, will be featured during the event, exploring the musical connection between New York and Charlotte through live percussion, DJ sets and dance. Rumbao Latin Dance Company will lead dance lessons, while DJ Carlos LeBron and a percussion trio provide the soundtrack for the evening. The event will also include live painting, cultural vendors and a celebration of the LeBron Brothers’ impact on salsa, including their 1969 recording Salsa y Control. The show marks Bridgers’ first performance in the city since 2021 and follows a sold-out show at New York’s Madison Square Garden and a series of surprise acoustic performances at venues around the country this summer. Known for her understated vocals, confessional songwriting and atmospheric arrangements, Bridgers has built a devoted following with songs including “Scott Street,” “Motion Sickness,” “Kyoto” and “Garden Song,” released across her two studio albums, Stranger in the Alps (2017) and Punisher (2020). Her third solo album, Lost Weekend, arrived in August, marking her first solo album in six years and a new chapter following her work with boygenius. Orlando-based indie folk band The 502s play a sold-out show at Neighborhood Theatre as part of their Just A Little Run Tour. Formed by brothers Ed and Joe Isak, the band began as a family music project before expanding into a larger ensemble known for its acoustic instrumentation, layered arrangements and upbeat, communal sound. Their music draws from folk traditions while incorporating elements of bluegrass, pop and rock, with songs such as “Just A Little While” and “You Belong” helping establish their distinctive style. The band’s latest album, Easy Street, released in 2025, continues that approach through a 13-song collection built around the fictional seaside town that gives the album its name.

New Orleans musician Trombone Shorty brings his blend of jazz, funk, soul, R&B, rock and hip-hop to The Underground this weekend with his band, Orleans Avenue. Born Troy Andrews and raised in the city’s Tremé neighborhood, the multi-instrumentalist is best known for his trombone and trumpet playing, while also playing tuba, organ and drums. He began performing at an early age, making his first appearance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival at 4 years old with Bo Diddley before leading his own brass band by age 6. Over the course of his career, he has become one of New Orleans’ most recognizable musical ambassadors, collaborating with artists including Pharrell Williams, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bruno Mars, Mark Ronson, Lenny Kravitz, Jon Batiste, Ringo Starr, and more. His festival résumé includes Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Newport Folk and Newport Jazz, along with regular appearances at New Orleans Jazz Fest, where he has closed the festival’s final set for more than a decade. Shorty’s 2022 album, Lifted, reflects the range of his sound, combining funk, soul, R&B and psychedelic rock. Greece-born, Fort Worth-based singer-songwriter Abraham Alexander will open the Charlotte show, bringing his blend of soul, folk, gospel, rock and R&B to the bill.
