West Coast hip-hop icons Cypress Hill — B-Real, Sen Dog, Eric Bobo and DJ Muggs (with Public Enemy’s DJ Lord now primarily handling tour duties) — will bring their Dank Daze of Summer Tour to Charlotte (August 12 at The Amp Ballantyne) alongside Minneapolis underground rap duo Atmosphere, Grammy-winning Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco, and ’90s alternative hip-hop pioneers The Pharcyde.
Cypress Hill, known for their cannabis advocacy and hits like “Insane in the Brain,” “Hit From the Bong,” “Tequila Sunrise,” and “I Wanna Get High,” will perform in Charlotte for the first time since 2019. With a catalog that includes platinum albums like their self-titled debut in 1991, Black Sunday (1993), and III: Temples of Boom (1995), the group released their latest, Back in Black, in 2022, and are coming off a career-spanning performance with the London Symphony Orchestra at Royal Albert Hall in July.
Atmosphere — comprised of lyricist Slug (Sean Daley) and producer Ant (Anthony Davis) — was highly influential in the independent hip-hop scene of the late ’90s and early 2000s through their Rhymesayers Entertainment record company. The duo has released 13 studio albums through their label, also working with artists such as Aesop Rock, Brother Ali, Dilated Peoples, Prof, and the late MF DOOM.
Lupe Fiasco, the Grammy-winning MC who burst onto the scene with Food & Liquor in 2006, followed by the critically acclaimed, platinum-selling albums The Cool (2007) and Lasers (2011), released his ninth studio album, Samurai, in June through his indie label 1st & 15th, in partnership with Thirty Tigers.
The Pharcyde — the trailblazing Los Angeles trio behind classic tracks like “Passin’ Me By” and “Runnin’” — will return to Charlotte for the first time since their 2022 tour, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of their beloved debut album Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde.
This show marks the second major hip-hop concert at The Amp Ballantyne this summer, following Run the Jewels’ highly anticipated stop on June 5.
