Many may know actor Ed Helms from his roles in The Office, The Hangover, and recent Netflix movie Coffee and Kareem, but you may not know he is the co-founder of the Bluegrass Situation, a platform for American roots music and culture. Today, Bluegrass Situation, TX Whiskey, Allbirds, Americana Music Association, and Ed Helms have announced the Whiskey Sour Happy Hour, an online variety show to benefit MusiCares’ COVID-19 Relief Fund and Direct Relief, debuting on April 22 at 8 p.m. EST and 5 p.m. PST. Helms will host the show with special guests Lee Ann Womack, Aubrie Sellers, Billy Strings, Madison Cunningham, and more scheduled for the first episode. New episodes will be broadcast every Wednesday for the following three weeks with confirmed guests like Chris Thile, Yola, Sarah Jarosz, Rhiannon Giddens & Francesco Turrisi, Robert Ellis, and Watkins Family Hour with additional guests announced in the coming weeks.
“As soon as we realized the severity of the current crisis, Ed and I both knew we had to do something to support both our musical and medical community—and not just a one-time thing, but something that could promote more sustained giving through multiple shows,” said BGS Co-Founder and Executive Director, Amy Reitnouer Jacobs. “In a short amount of time, our BGS family of artists have come together in such a big way to make this happen. It makes us feel like even though we’re all separated right now, we’re closer than ever before.”
Fans will be able to donate to MusiCares and Direct Relief through DonorBox and Whiskey Sour Happy Hour will stream live at 8 p.m. EST on TheBluegrassSituation.com, YouTube, and Facebook.
