In anticipation of their upcoming collaborative project Abi & Alan, neo-soul pioneer Erykah Badu and legendary hip-hop producer The Alchemist have announced a limited tour run, stopping in Charlotte this summer on August 21 at The Fillmore. The tour follows the release of their latest single, “Next to You,” which debuted on June 20.

Badu, a multiple Grammy Award winner and one of the originators of the neo-soul movement, is celebrated for timeless hits like “On & On,” “Didn’t Cha Know,” “Tyrone,” “Bag Lady,” and “Love of My Life (An Ode to Hip-Hop).” Beyond her music, her Afro-futuristic fashion and artistic aesthetics have cemented her cultural influence across generations.

Earlier this year, Badu received the Icon Award at the 2025 Billboard Women in Music ceremony and earned her fifth Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance alongside North Carolina’s Rapsody on the track “3:AM.” This upcoming album marks her first studio release since 2010’s New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh). She last performed in Charlotte in 2023 at Spectrum Center for her Unfollow Me Tour, and Dreamville Fest earlier this year.

Alan Daniel Maman, better known as The Alchemist, is one of hip-hop’s most prolific producers. Emerging in the ’90s, he became known for his gritty, sample-heavy beats, working with Mobb Deep, Nas, Dilated Peoples, and Eminem. Over the years, he has crafted collaborative projects with artists such as Freddie Gibbs, Boldy James, Action Bronson, Havoc, Prodigy, Curren$y, Earl Sweatshirt, and recently, Life Is Beautiful with 2 Chainz and Larry June.

Artist presale for the tour begins Tuesday, June 24 at 10 a.m. (code: TREBLE), with tickets available to the public starting Friday, June 27 at 10 a.m.
