The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to Charlotte this week for three captivating performances. This season honors the legacy of the late Artistic Director Emerita Judith Jamison, celebrating the company’s deep-rooted history and artistic impact.
Founded in 1958 by visionary choreographer Alvin Ailey, the company has become one of the most influential forces in the dance world. Renowned for its powerful storytelling and commitment to showcasing African American culture, the ensemble continues to push the boundaries of contemporary dance. With performances in over 70 countries, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater remains a global ambassador for the transformative power of movement.
This season, honoring lineage and legacy, Ailey’s remarkable dancers will perform the beloved masterpiece Revelations alongside captivating new works by choreographers inspired by Mr. Ailey’s groundbreaking vision. The program features Sacred Songs, a world premiere by Matthew Rushing, Many Angels by Lar Lubovitch, and Revelations, the iconic masterpiece by Alvin Ailey.
