Charlotte FC looks to bounce back from their first defeat of the season as they host FC Cincinnati at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday, March 15 (7:30 p.m.). The Crown failed to register a shot on target despite playing against 10 men for most of the match in a frustrating 1-0 loss to Inter Miami.

Cincinnati enters the match in solid form, sitting fourth in the Eastern Conference with six points from three games. They secured a 2-0 win over Toronto FC in their most recent league match, with new signing Kévin Denkey converting a penalty and Yuya Kubo adding a late goal. They are also coming off a 3-1 loss to Tigres UANL in the Concacaf Champions Cup on Tuesday.

This is a different Cincinnati team from last season, as they no longer have Lucho Acosta, the midfield maestro who orchestrated their attack. In his place, they’ve added Evander from the Portland Timbers in a $12 million deal in the offseason. The Brazilian playmaker has already shown his quality, assisting a goal in their win over Toronto and scoring against Tigres.

Charlotte announced on Wednesday the signing of left back Souleyman Doumbia on loan from Standard Liège. His arrival provides much-needed depth and another potential starting option in defense, as Tim Ream and Patrick Agyemang have been called up to the U.S. Men’s National Team for the Concacaf Nations League and will miss Charlotte’s upcoming fixtures.

The Crown had success against Cincinnati last season, earning a 1-1 draw at home before securing a 3-1 road victory. With both teams looking to establish themselves as contenders in the Eastern Conference, this matchup could be an early measuring stick for the rest of the season ahead.
