The 2024-25 NBA season kicked off with head coach Charles Lee earning his first win against the Houston Rockets. Following Friday’s game in Atlanta, the Hornets will play the home opener against the Miami Heat Saturday night at the newly renovated Spectrum Center. With a dynamic young core of LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller (out for the home opener), and Miles Bridges, the Hornets are determined to break an eight-year playoff drought this season with more depth and defensive tenacity. Tre Mann will look to add a spark of the bench as he did against the Rockets with 24 points in 29 minutes, and Grant Williams will contribute with his two-way versatility against Jimmy Butler and the Heat.

At halftime, a ceremony will honor longtime public address announcer Pat Doughty (Big Pat), who tragically passed in July. The beloved voice of Hornets’ home games, Doughty was with the organization since the Bobcats inaugural season in 2004. From the small town of Pocomoke City, Maryland, Doughty was adored by fans, players, and staff in Charlotte.

The first 10,000 fans inside the arena will receive Hive Mentality Rally Towels, celebrating the new team tagline. 13,000 “Carolina Strong” T-shirts will also be distributed to raise awareness for long-term relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Helene.

Fans in attendance will be the first to experience the upgrades to the arena which include new hospitality spaces, technology, and food and beverage offerings. There will also be a live jazz band performing outside of the Spectrum Center prior to the game.
