The Hornets will host the Atlanta Hawks at Spectrum Center for the second time this season. Charlotte leads the season series 1-0, and will look to earn their first three-game win streak of the season. The Hornets’ revamped roster is 2-0 since the trade deadline. Head coach Steve Clifford stated the team is “more experienced, and much deeper” in Monday’s postgame availability.
The Atlanta Hawks have a 2-3 record in their last five games and sit in 10th place in the Eastern Conference Standings.
The Hornets will wear their Statement Edition uniforms against the Hawks, paired with the Statement Edition court.
What to watch for:
The Hawks are led by Trae Young, a three-time All-Star that currently ranks second in the NBA in assists per game (10.9). Young’s ability to attack the rim presents opposing defenses with multiple problems, and he excels at finding their frontcourt players for easy alley-oop opportunities. Atlanta ranks eighth in the NBA in offensive rating (117.9).
Charlotte native Grant Williams has been a revelation for the team, adding defense and floor-spacing at the center position. Charlotte’s bench production has been outstanding since the deadline. The Hornets bench has scored 45 and 44 points in two games, giving Clifford a plethora of new lineups to deploy.
LaMelo Ball (right ankle tendinopathy) and Mark Williams (lower back injury recovery) are ruled out for Wednesday night’s game against Atlanta.
Clint Capela (left abductor strain), AJ Griffin (illness), Mouhamed Gueye (right low back stress fracture), Wesley Matthews (illness), and Onyeka Okongwu (left big toe sprain) are listed as out against the Hornets, per Kevin Chouinard.
