The Hornets look to break a three-game losing streak as they return home to face the Detroit Pistons Wednesday night. LaMelo Ball has been on a scoring tear averaging 28.6 points per game, but also leads the league in turnovers with 5.4 per game. The Hornets are in the top half of the league in offensive rating (14th), but have struggled on defense allowing 118.3 per game with the league’s worst defensive rating. With both Nick Richards (rib) and Mark Williams (foot) out with injuries, rookie Tidjane Salaun and veteran Taj Gibson should get increased minutes. Brandon Miller and Josh Green have returned to the starting lineup, and will continue to build on-court chemistry with the starters to help notch one in the win column for the Hornets.
The league’s worst team last season with just 14 wins, the Pistons head into the game with the NBA’s 11th best defense bolstered by third-year center Jalen Duren and versatile forward Isaiah Stewart, who is averaging 1.4 blocks per game off the bench. Detroit is coming off back-to-back wins against the Nets and Lakers, led by their talented young guard tandem of Cade Cunningham (23.3 ppg) and Jaden Ivey (19.6 ppg).
