The Hornets are in desperate need of a win, currently on a historic five-game losing streak by an average margin of 30.4 points. They are also shooting an abysmal 38.4% from the field and 27.3% from three-point range in their last five games. Coming off a 103-96 loss to the Mavericks, where Mark Williams contributed 26 points and 16 rebounds, the Hornets will kick off a five-game home stretch, taking on the Washington Wizards Saturday night.
LaMelo Ball, who has been out the last two games with ankle soreness, is listed as questionable for Saturday night’s game. The Hornets are currently 1-21 in games without Ball, with Miles Bridges picking up much of the production, averaging 21 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in his last five games.
The Wizards are the only team with a worse record than the Hornets, although they have already beaten Charlotte three times this season. Led by Jordan Poole, who averages 21 points and 4.8 assists per game, they’ll also rely on newly acquired veteran Khris Middleton, who is slowly getting acclimated to his new team after being acquired in a trade deadline deal that sent Kyle Kuzma to the Bucks.
This will also be Mark Williams’ first home game since the trade deadline debacle. Not quite the homecoming anybody asked for, but the Hornets will need him to dominate the boards against a weak-rebounding Wizards team. Saturday will also be a Somos Los Hornets night, celebrating fans and players from Latin American and U.S. Hispanic communities with an evening filled with themed entertainment.
