Christian McBride, the eight-time Grammy Award-winning bassist, bandleader, and host of NPR’s Jazz Night in America, presents The Movement Revisited. A sonic portrait of Black icons Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Martin Luther King Jr., and Barack Obama, the show features the Christian McBride Big Band, a gospel choir, and orators paying tribute to the Black icons. Four prominent Charlotteans will narrate a portion of the show: Bluz Rodgers as Malcolm X, Hannah Hasan as Rosa Parks, Corey “CYO” Brown as Muhammad Ali, and Jason “Jet” Jones as Martin Luther King.
McBride is an accomplished musician that has recorded and shared the stage with artists such as Herbie Hancock, Roy Hargrove, Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Isaac Hayes, The Roots, Queen Latifah, Bruce Hornsby, and James Brown. He is also the Artistic Director of the historic Newport Jazz Festival and the National Jazz Museum in Harlem.
