Deftones, the Grammy Award-winning Sacramento alternative metal band, bring their North American tour to Charlotte this month, performing in Charlotte for the first time in over seven years. Best known for their albums Adrenaline (1995), Around the Fur (1997), White Pony (2000), and their self-titled 2003 album — each of which was platinum or gold certified — the band released their latest album, Ohms, in 2020. The band also headlines their own annual festival, Dia De Los Deftones, in San Diego, which also featured Idles, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Health in 2024.
Experimental/post-hardcore rockers The Mars Volta will also perform on the bill. The El Paso, Texas band was formed in 2001 by former At The Drive-In members Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López. They released their debut EP, Tremulant, in 2002, and their first full-length album, De-Loused in the Comatorium, in 2003. Their second album, Frances the Mute (2005), became their commercial breakthrough, and they won a Grammy for “Wax Simulacra” from their 2008 album, The Bedlam in Goliath. After a hiatus in 2012, Rodríguez-López and Bixler-Zavala reunited in 2019 and recorded a self-titled album (The Mars Volta) in 2022. The band currently consists of Omar Rodríguez-López (guitar, producer), Cedric Bixler-Zavala (vocals), Eva Gardner (bass), Marcel Rodríguez-López (keyboards), Leo Genovese (piano), and Linda-Philomène Tsoungui (drums).
Fleshwater is a Boston-based nu-gaze band known for their blend of shoegaze, post-punk, and alternative rock, consisting of members Justin Taylor (vocals, guitar), Kyle Harder (guitar), and Owen Kelley (drums). They released their debut full-length album, We’re Not Here to Be Loved, in 2022, and their follow-up, We Are Not Alone, the following year. They are best known for their songs “Kiss the Ladder,” “The Razor’s Apple,” and “Closet.”
