Charlotte’s best museum rooftop party, Art After Dark, returns this month with a diverse array of experiences at the Harvey B. Gantt Center. Check out the latest film exhibit, American Gurl, co-curated by recording artist Kilo Kish and Zehra Ahmed (founder of Womxn in Windows). The exhibit features eight films by intergenerational artists with curiosity around the perspectives and nuances within the Black feminine experience; relating to beauty, success, freedom, and power. Also on display will be Dark & Divine, a figurative art pop-up exhibition curated by Dasia Hood, featuring seven talented local artists.

Kilo Kish, an art-pop/experimental hip-hop singer-songwriter and visual artist, best known for her songs “Nice Out” and “Taking Responsibility,” released her latest album, American Gurl, in 2022 featuring Miguel, Jean Dawson, Vince Staples, and Jesse Boykins III.

The Gantt’s MODA digital studio will be open for attendees with interactive virtual reality simulations, blurring the lines between reality and the digital realm through their VR headsets. Black artisans will also be showcased with a vendor market, where you can peruse locally sourced, high-quality goods. Dionna Bright, a talented Charlotte fine art portrait photographer will “capture the human form” with a special photo booth activation.

The evening will also feature a performance by R&B/soul singer-songwriter, composer and musician Kris Bliss, accompanied by a live band ensemble.
