New Orleans native Jazz trumpeter, composer, and producer, Chief Adjuah (Christian Scott), returns to Charlotte’s Jazz Room with his enthralling five-piece band to kick off the new year. The nephew of legendary jazz saxophonist, Donald Harrison Jr., Adjuah is a six-time Grammy-nominated musician, and a two-time recipient of the prestigious Edison Award (Dutch music prize for outstanding achievements in music).
A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, the decorated instrumentalist has released more than a dozen recordings through Concord Jazz and Ropeadope Records. In 2010, Adjuah also toured with Atoms for Peace, the supergroup formed by Radiohead’s Thom York, also featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist, Flea.
Pushing boundaries of modern jazz exploration, his musical innovations often incorporate elements of hip-hop, Afrobeat, progressive rock, and West African percussion, also encompassing multiple languages and cultures. JazzArts Charlotte’s Jazz Room will provide the ideal setting for the concert with cabaret tables and a full bar, reminiscent of the classic jazz rooms of yesteryear.
