Legendary comedian and actor, Martin Lawrence, will bring his first headlining tour in eight years to Charlotte’s Spectrum Center Valentine’s Day weekend.

Widely known for his iconic ’90s sitcom Martin, Lawrence first rose to fame with his breakthrough role in Spike Lee’s 1989 classic Do the Right Thing, hosting HBO’s groundbreaking series Def Comedy Jam in the early ’90s. Following the success of Martin, Lawrence starred in a series of blockbuster films, including Life, Big Momma’s House, and the Bad Boys franchise.

Lawrence reunited with Will Smith in 2020 to reprise his role as Detective Marcus Burnett in Bad Boys for Life, the third installment of the franchise. The film grossed over $426 million globally, becoming the highest-grossing entry in the series. The duo returned in 2024 with Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which achieved commercial success, earning over $404.2 million worldwide.

In 2022, the cast of Martin reunited to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary in a special titled Martin: The Reunion. The reunion brought back the original cast members Martin Lawrence, Tisha Campbell, Tichina Arnold, and Carl Anthony Payne II, along with special guests Snoop Dogg, Tracy Morgan, and Brian McKnight. It included interviews and reflections on the show’s impact, paying tribute to late cast member Thomas Mikal Ford.

The cast also reunited at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards in January 2024, recreating the show’s iconic set, humorously reflecting on the series’ lack of Emmy nominations during its five-season run.

As a stand-up comedian, Lawrence has three major comedy specials, with none more impactful than his first, You So Crazy. Debuting in theaters in 1994, the special broke new ground by pushing the limits of what could be discussed on stage, cementing his status as one of the comedy greats of the ’90s alongside Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock.

Lawrence will perform a full headlining set, joined by comedians Benji Brown and Daphnique Springs as opening acts for both the Charlotte (February 15) and Greenville (February 14) tour stops.
