Born and raised in Charlotte, Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology graduate, Sean Mason taught himself how to play the piano by ear at the age of 13. Getting his start with JazzArts Charlotte’s All-Star Ensemble, then studying at UNC Greensboro and The Juilliard School, Mason quickly made a name for himself in New York City, performing with jazz legends Branford Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis and Herlin Riley. He released his debut album as a bandleader, The Southern Suite, in 2023, and a collaborative project (Chrome Valley) with poet and singer-songwriter, Mahogany L. Browne, on April 19. Mason has also worked with artists outside of the jazz genre such as Masego, Roy Blair, and Kenneth Whalum.
