Peabody Award-winning comedian, actor, and musician Fred Armisen is bringing his Comedy for Musicians But Everyone Is Welcome tour to Charlotte June 18 (The Fillmore) and Asheville on June 19 (The Orange Peel). Best known for his offbeat humor and satire as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, starring in and co-creating the beloved IFC series Portlandia and Documentary Now!, Armisen is also a talented multi-instrumentalist.

The tour will offer a blend of stand-up comedy, musical sketches, and observations, mimicking the stage banter of indie bands and featuring inside jokes for music lovers, expanding on his 2018 Netflix special, Standup for Drummers. Attendees can expect live musical performances, comedic musings, and vignettes. While music plays a key role in his set, this is still a full-on comedy show.

Armisen’s deep connection to music has been evident throughout his career. His Portlandia co-star, Carrie Brownstein, plays in the indie rock band Sleater-Kinney, while Armisen himself played drums in the punk outfit Trenchmouth in the late ’80s. He also contributed drums to Les Savy Fav’s 2007 album Let’s Stay Friends and Matthew Sweet’s 2011 album Modern Art. In 2018, Armisen drummed with Devo at John Waters’ Burger Boogaloo festival in Oakland, California, and in 2021, he performed at Newport Folk Festival with Beck.

Presale for Fred Armisen’s Comedy for Musicians But Everyone Is Welcome tour in Charlotte on June 18 (code: FUNKY) and Asheville on June 19 will begin on Wednesday, March 19 at 10 a.m. Tickets will go on sale to the public on Thursday, March 20 at 10 a.m.
