The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame announced its 2024 induction class honoring Panthers legend Steve Smith Sr.; Wake Forest basketball great Randolph Childress; former Davidson basketball coach Bob McKillop; UNC Asheville women’s basketball star Sheila Ford Duncan; Charlotte-born Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Jim Nantz; Olympic gold medal rower Caroline Lind; former NFL player and Johnson C. Smith grad Pettis Norman; UConn NCAA Women’s Final Four MVP Shea Ralph; the late UNC Men’s tennis coach Don Skakle; Commissioner of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Marilyn “Que” Tucker; and former Wake Forest Athletic Director Ron Wellman.

The 11 inductees will be enshrined during the 60th annual Induction Celebration taking place on Friday, May 10 at the Charlotte Convention Center.

“This year’s class joining the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame is dynamic in many ways,” said Dr. Jerry McGee, president of the hall’s Board of Directors. “Not only are they part of a milestone group, given that this is the sixtieth Induction Celebration, they are representative of the reach throughout the Charlotte community, the state of North Carolina, the United States, and beyond.”

The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame was originally established in 1963 by businessman Jack Wood and attorney Lloyd Caudle in Charlotte, and the permanent exhibit is located at the North Carolina Museum of History in Raleigh, featuring historical memorabilia donated by the inductees. This will be the first time the induction ceremony will take place in Charlotte in decades, according to NC Sports Hall of Fame Executive Director Trip Durham.
