Charlotte’s Reuben Vincent has released a new single ahead of his highly-anticipated new EP Boy Meets World (out June 26). Following October’s release of the nostalgic ode to Charlotte’s  “Albermarle Road” with a single and music video, “Close” is an introspective track that examines the conscious of the young 9th Wonder and Rapsody protégé.

Having been signed to 9th Wonder’s Jamla Records since 2016, the 19-year-old North Carolina A&T student exhibits a rare wisdom for his age. Produced by Eric G (T.I., Mac Miller, Rapsody), the eerie reverberating beat has Vincent reflecting on his life’s path with a hook echoing “You ain’t right.”

The music video starts as haunting as the song with Vincent dashing down an empty city street seemingly running away from the evil influences in today’s social media-driven society. Directed by Patrick Lincoln of Torch House Media, the visuals pair a minimal black and white film aesthetic with stylish effects and matte shots.

“I’m proud of ‘Close,’ both the song and video, and honored to have had the chance to work with my collaborators on this one,” Vincent said. “Eric G brought the perfect energy with his beat, amplifying the statement I wanted to make with this track – reflecting on my life and the temptations, distractions, and obstacles that have come about. And Patrick Lincoln killed it with the video. I hope people take the time to listen to the lyrics, and it’s just a preview of the full EP, which really shows my growth as an artist.”

Boy Meets World will be released on June 26 via Jamla Records, the EP is executive produced 9th Wonder and includes production by Eric G, Khrysis, Sndtrak and Vohn Beatz with collaborations with Jamla label mate GQ and singer .SMITTY.
