The Roots Picnic, a yearly Philadelphia-based music festival hosted by The Roots took place virtually this year. An annual event showcasing a collection of talented hip-hop, R&B and neo-soul acts, this year, the festival partnered with former first lady Michelle Obama as a co-host to assist her nonprofit organization When We All Vote to register voters.
Featuring some stellar performances by H.E.R., Snoh Aalegra, Kirk Franklin, and The Roots for the main event, the pre-show also offered some mesmerizing sets from Victory Boyd, Infinity’s Song, and Sampa the Great. Special appearances by Janelle Monáe, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kerry Washington, Chris Paul, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and an art collection tour from Coach K (Quality Control Music) made for an entertaining virtual event.
